Q&A

Why do you belong at IU?

IU has tons of cultural diversity and I am a person that comes from a very ethnically diverse background. It also sets high standards for academic excellence, which will be helpful to me as I apply to graduate schools and seek out job opportunities. There are so many different things a person can be involved in, that gives this large campus a more intimate feel.

What do you like most about your major or scholarship program?

The ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of them. There are many networking opportunities for students with faculty members that will be beneficial to me as I pursue my degrees. I have also made life-long friendships through my programs. Lastly, I appreciate the fact that all of the hard work I did in high school is valued.

What is an interesting fact about you that most people would find surprising or unexpected?

I played the violin for nine years before coming to IU and was a first violin in the highest orchestra at my high school. I also play the piano and have been for most of my life. I thoroughly enjoy listening to and making music. I love playing classic hits, especially by ear. I can also sing, and love to harmonize with my sisters, who also play multiple musical instruments.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?

Kirkwood Avenue, because it has a wide variety of areas to shop and it is very easy to run into friends there. It's a great place to bring family and friends when they visit the campus -- there are tons of restaurants, stores and other forms of entertainment. Kirkwood also possesses much of the beauty that exists on the IU campus, and is conveniently within walking distance from it.

What is your favorite thing about Bloomington?

I love the weather and the gorgeous, scenic areas of the town. These two aspects really help to lessen the stress in my life when I have a lot going on in school, or in my extracurricular activities.

Tell us about your family.

I have an older sister who is a junior and majoring in informatics, a younger sister who is going into the eighth grade and a younger brother who is going into the tenth grade. I also have a miniature black schnauzer named Koby. When I am not in Bloomington, I live with my family in Indianapolis.

What is the best college experience you have had so far?

Going to award ceremonies as a Herbert Presidential Scholar and networking with both professionals and IU staff on campus. Such activities allow me to make important connections that are not only valuable to me while I am a student, but also when the time comes to apply to graduate schools and look for jobs in my chosen profession. It's a wonderful feeling when others gather to recognize all of the hard work you've done. An added bonus is the delicious, free food at these events!

What do you want to do after you graduate?

Attend law school and get an M.B.A., in hopes of becoming a general counsel of a Fortune 500 corporation. Eventually, I'd like to be a law professor before I retire.

What music are you currently listening to?

Ryan Leslie's song, "Addiction".
