Q&A
Why do you belong at IU?
Indiana University combines a world-renowned business program, impeccable campus, and numerous social and academic opportunities into my perfect university. I also truly get a sense daily that I “belong” at IU. My professors genuinely respect me and make me feel like an asset to the university. My ability to be highly involved and know that what I am doing makes a difference is what separates IU from other schools.
What do you like most about your major or scholarship program?
The Kelley School of Business has offered me the most challenging, yet most fulfilling coursework I could ever imagine. The career services office, as well as the faculty in general, is an invaluable resource that helps you become a cut above the competition when applying for internships and jobs. Kelley has thus far provided me with an opportunity to travel to India for 10 days this summer, and I cannot wait to discover more ways to grow as a businesswoman and as a person. The Herbert Presidential Scholars program has allowed me to meet high-achieving Indiana residents, as well as enjoy fantastic banquets and meet President McRobbie!
What is an interesting fact about you that most people would find surprising or unexpected?
I love making chocolate, and hope to someday own my own chocolate shop featuring my own creations!
Where is your favorite spot on campus?
While there is a beautiful limestone building or blooming scenery everywhere you go on campus, my favorite spot would have to be the Arboretum. I like seeing nature in progress right in the heart of campus, and it is my favorite place to relax and read a good book.
What is your favorite thing about Bloomington?
There is always something going on! Bloomington is the most vibrant town I have ever seen—there is always something to do or somewhere new to see. I hope to someday try all the restaurants on 4th Street and experience as much of the culture as I can.
Tell us about your family.
My parents are both in human resources and were a huge influence in my desire to go to business school. My dad is retiring at the end of the year, and I look forward to him coming down to Bloomington more often with his newly-open schedule (but Mom, know that you’re always welcome to come down as well!). I have one brother who is a manager of communications services and has been blessed with five wonderful children. I absolutely love being an aunt, and I really appreciate the support from my family for my pursuit of my academic goals.
What is the best college experience you have had so far?
Being a part of Women in Business has introduced me to so many successful women, challenged me to grow as a leader and a future businesswoman, and given me endless opportunities within the business school, the university, and the Bloomington community. I appreciate how every member has a specific role within the organization, and every person is held accountable for their responsibilities. I have made some of my best friends in this organization and I cannot wait to see how the club will grow in the next two years.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
I hope to work for a large company, preferably in consulting. I have an internship this summer in technology consulting, and I am excited to get a feel for what a consulting role is like. I eventually would like to have a family, and of course, open my chocolate shop!
What music are you currently listening to?
Josh Groban's "Noel"--it's never too early for Christmas music!
What is your advice to students interested in Indiana University?
APPLY! There are endless resources, opportunities, people to meet, and classes to take…you will have the best four years of your life. Research the university and the town, contact current students who you know from high school or who are available to help, set up a campus tour, think about possible majors, and otherwise just give it some thought. I remember how searching for the right college can be a tough process, but definitely check out everything IU has to offer—you’ll be glad you did.
