Q&A

Why do you belong at IU?

How could I not?? IU has allowed me to pursue my many varied academic interests, while also providing countless opportunities for cultural, social, and personal enrichment. For me, IU offers the liberal arts education of a small college that I seek while providing the resources of a Big Ten university. I know I belong at IU because I find myself missing school when I’m home.

What do you like most about your major or scholarship program?

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a Wells Scholar is that the Wells Program organizes small, intimate bi-monthly discussions with distinguished visitors to campus, such as award winning scientists, famous filmmakers, politicians and diplomats. I don’t know any other school where I would have the opportunity to meet and speak with as many astounding individuals as I have had at IU.

What is an interesting fact about you that most people would find surprising or unexpected?

I used to be a wirewalker in a circus.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?

There’s a tiny garden next to the president’s house and behind the MAC that nobody ever goes to.

What is your favorite thing about Bloomington?

For a small Mid-western town, Bloomington has A LOT of culture—from the hundreds of concerts every year, to the many ethnic restaurants. My favorite thing so far is probably Lotus Fest , the arts and music festival held every fall. .

Tell us about your family.

My parents are both scientists. My sister and I, however, are both pursuing careers in the arts—go figure. My whole family loves swing dancing, and we all go out dancing together to live music events several nights a week when we’re all home in New Orleans.

What is the best college experience you have had so far?

It’s a 3-way tie: Directing a live TV studio shoot of a rock band for a Telecom class, eating dinner with Iraqi Ambassador, Feisal al-Istrabadi, and hanging out with the band, Guster, after their IU auditorium concert.

What do you want to do after you graduate?

My dream is to move to Los Angeles and work in the film industry—I eventually want to become a director.

What music are you currently listening to?

The Juno soundtrack.

What is your advice to students interested in Indiana University?

Visit IU—you’ll understand why everyone loves it so much!
